We estimate there are about 30,000 people in the country who play regularly, in neighborhood clubs, campgrounds, schools, etc...
Or in their backyard.
There are also around 40 formal clubs part of FPUSA - the Federation of Petanque USA , the official US body affiliated with the International Petanque Federation.
FPUSA now (2009) counts 1300 members, organizes regional and national tournaments, as well as the qualifiers for the US National Team.
